As part of the Government’s commitment to improving the country’s internet structure in rural areas, schools where broadband is not up to par, will soon be able to experience speeds ten times faster than their existing speeds, thanks to new technology being delivered by partnering Internet Service Providers.

We are working in conjunction with the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on a pilot scheme to bring faster broadband to schools, whose speeds fall below 30Mbps, in areas where there is a lack of fibre infrastructure.

We’re already delivering the new Ultrafast technology, FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) to schools in pilot areas. Schools are starting to experience speeds up to 300Mbps – ten times faster than existing speeds and could even have the capability to be upgraded to 1,000Mbps in the future. The Government announced £300M funding in November’s budget to cover the cost of the fibre installation into school buildings.
